Our trip to Brazil part 1 |
|
Hi Adam, The first time I wrote this to you, I was sitting at a computer few chairs away from you at your computer in an internet café in Rio on our last day in Brazil, March 27. I don't know why it did not arrive on your computer, but guess I was rushing and maybe did not click the "submit" button before we all had to get back to the hotel to get our things and leave the city. Dad and I were then off to the airport for a 10pm flight and you were off to the bus station on your way to Florianopolis. I think we all arrived at our destinations about the same time the next morning.
We had such a wonderful time traveling with you and getting to see some of the country. The Iguacu Falls from both Argentinean and Brazilian sides were so much bigger and spectacular than we ever imagined. Thanks for taking all the photos that we couldn't take since our camera somehow got lost, before we even got off the plane (we think). We knew you would be fluent in Spanish --- which you are, but were really impressed with hearing you speak Portuguese with the natives --- even engaging in a heated "discussion" with that taxi driver who wanted to change his initial agreed-upon fee. The best was hearing you speak Portuguese in that interview on the TV news show. Funny!

Hey Adam! You really made Julie's day when you called on your birthdays! That was really sweet! And Rachel and I enjoyed speaking with you too.
Lots of love

Hi, Adam. It's nice to "meet" you. Your mother told me about your website today.
I knew your parents when we were "kids" in Fair Lawn (although I'm much younger than them - an entire three years!). Fair Lawn is just a few miles northeast of where you are. I ran into your mother through JGS a year ago, and it's been wonderful to spend time catching up with her. I have photos of your folks from when they were sixteen years old. Maybe those should go on your website!
I didn't know Roni and Jerry had a red-headed son. I guess red hair isn't a recessive gene!
I admire your spirit and your enthusiasm.

Between Napal and your toileting and now no showering in South America, I'mnot sure we want to callyou a relative -- but, we love you anyway -- I'm constantly intrigued and fascinated with your trip and your writing. I wish I had some of your adventurous spirit in me -- where in the world did you get it from - Grandma? I doubt it! Continue having a fabulous time and be safe. Love you, Aunt Linda

Adam, I envy you! I'm a grandma now, but I traveled alone in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia in the 50's and LOVED it!!It's good to have friends to travel with. but if you REALLY want to improve your Spanish, etc., those friends need to be natives or MK's who are bilingual. I'm going to send you website address to a grandson who is just before graduate school, and hope that he will get inspired to do something similar. READING is important, too. A novel or two about each country, or essays by leading thinkers ---native authors, of course. Buena suerte!
