Welcome to Chile

We woke up on the 26th, packed our bags, and headed to the bus station for a 6 hour ride to Santiago, the capital of Chile. The scenery was gorgeous as we crossed the Andes and the customs offices themselves were small buildings surrounded by nothing but the quiet beauty of the mountains around them. We got into Santiago and immediately bought tickets for that night, an overnight bus, to go to Pucon. In the mean time Harris and I stored our bags at the terminal, where we ran into a traveller from Mamaroneck, NY (the town bordering mine), and used the few hours we had to take a subway into the city and go out to dinner at a fabulous an reasonably priced restaurant. If you're ever in Santiago, chek out Las Vacas Gordas (The Fat Cows) near Plaza Brazil. Being out of Argentina I finally managed to avoid another steak meal, and treated myself to some delicous pasta. We even had time to play a not-so-quick and embarassingly bad game of pool at a pool hall across the street. Then it was back to the bus terminal and an overnight bus to Pucon.
