Back in Salvador on Wednesday with only a couple days to spare and no sure plans, we actually chose to check in to a hostel instead of renting another apartment. It worked out perfectly since we ended up leaving at different times, and there were some great people staying in the Sao Jorge hostel in Pelourinho as well. We met a group of 4 girls travelling together who are now all from the New York area, but are orignally from Israel (Talia), Nigeria (Ivie), Dominican Republic (Kelly), and Ukraine (Sacha). They were a cool bunch to spend some time with, as well as the rest of the Israel-Argentina-US-Australia-English-etc mix we had going on at the hostel.

The next day Martin took off for a town further south on the coast, and the rest of us just hung out, walked around, and got a sampling of what Pelourinho and Salvador are like when Carnaval is not going on. Its quite a change, though I feel like there is live music somewhere and a special vibe in the streets every day of the year here. Thursday night marked Ash's last in South America, and everyone from their original travelling group who was still on the continent, plus Dan and I, were together for this night. So clearly a celebration had to take place, and the rest of the hostel members gladly helped out. It was a fun night indeed, and the next morning we said goodbye to Ash and were off down the coat ourselves to go meet back up with Martin.
